What is gastroparesis?

Gastroparesis is a medical condition in which the stomach does not empty properly. Typical symptoms include nausea, vomiting, early satiety (only can eat small amounts), staying excessively full for prolonged periods of time, and bloating. It is also sometimes associated with abdominal pain.

What causes gastroparesis?

Gastroparesis can be caused by:

- Type I/II diabetes

- Post-surgical (certain stomach procedures can cause it)

- Idiopathic (no direct cause can be found)

Can gastroparesis be treated?

First line of treatment include dietary adjustments. If that is unsuccessful, there are medications that can be used. If medication is not successful in treating the condition, there are procedures that can be done to help improve your quality of life.
